Education Director Debbye Brandell
Jewish education has been a part of Debbye Brandell’s life for the past 25 years, and for 16 of them she has served Temple Chaverim as its Education Director. With her energy, vision, and dedication, she has been instrumental in developing the Religious School from a one day a week program to the innovative Religious School now in place.
Before coming to Temple Chaverim, she was a teacher in several Long Island synagogues both in the religious schools and nursery schools, and was instrumental in developing special education programs. "Planning and preparing a Bar Mitzvah for a student with Down’s syndrome was a heartfelt moment that I will never forget", she said.
Debbye began her religious education in the Hebrew Schools at the Jewish Center of Kew Garden Hills and at the Forest Hills Jewish Center. She was a part of the first cohort of SAJES 2 year program, the Principal’s Leadership Institute and the Leadership Institute for Congregational School Principals. She received a Masters Degree in Education from Dowling College.
Debbye lives with her husband Hal and family in Wheatley Heights and is the proud mother of Matt, Rebecca & Deena.
