Welcome Letter from Rabbi Simon
The synagogue is the center of Jewish life in America and Temple Chaverim is the center for Reform Jewish life in Plainview-Old Bethpage. We offer something very different from many congregations on Long Island. We have worked hard to create an atmosphere, which is at the same time, cordial and caring, hamish and open, modern and rooted in the tradition. As a member congregation of the Union for Reform Judaism, we take seriously the vision of Reform Judaism. We offer a varied program of Jewish life, we prepare our children for Jewish adulthood, and we meet the spiritual needs of our members and their family. We have grown from fifteen families to a congregation of over 450 family units. Our beautiful Synagogue building, with its one hundred year old ark, provides a perfect setting for worship, learning and community building.
I invite you to become a part of Temple Chaverim. Join us in the excitement as we strive to become one of the best Synagogues on Long Island.
Rabbi James Simon, Interim Rabbi
Led by our creative and dynamic Interim Rabbi, James Simon, our warm and welcoming Associate Rabbi, Debra Bennet, our gifted Cantor, Bradley Hyman, and our knowledgeable and caring Religious School Principal, Debbye Brandell, Temple Chaverim strives to create a lively and warm spirit in our services and Religious School. A Reform Synagogue, Temple Chaverim is committed to providing a full range of Jewish ritual, social, educational and social action programming for our diverse membership. We are an affiliate of the Union for Reform Judaism. Temple Chaverim serves the Long Island communities of Plainview, Woodbury, Syosset, Old Bethpage, Melville, Jericho, Farmingdale and Huntington.
