Assistant Rabbi Joshua Lobel
Temple Chaverim is delighted to welcome Rabbi Josh Lobel as its first Assistant Rabbi, joining fellow clergy Rabbi Jonathan L. Hecht, Ph.D. and Cantor Bradley Hyman in the spiritual leadership of our congregation. Rabbi Lobel is excited about beginning his rabbinate at Temple Chaverim. Ordained at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 2007, he served as a rabbinic intern at Temple Beth Emet V'Ohr Progressive Shaaray Tzedek and the Hillel of Greater Baltimore. His duties at his student pulpits included leading worship service, running adult education programs, advising youth groups, and teaching in religious school. Rabbi Lobel has a wide variety of Jewish interests, including, but not limited to, Midrash, liturgy, and Reform Jewish history and thought, and Jewish mysticism. Passionate about teaching Torah, rabbinic texts, and Jewish thought, Rabbi Lobel looks forward to opportunities to learn with the Temple Chaverim community. He currently lives in Queens with his wife, Dr. Elizabeth Lobel, who is a psychiatry resident at Zucker Hillside Hospital.
| Cantor Bradley Hyman | |
![]() | Cantor Hyman came to Temple Chaverim in 2004, after previously serving a congregation in Glendale, California. He is a graduate of Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religions School of Sacred Music with a Masters Degree in Sacred Music. He also holds a Bachelor of the Arts degree in history from Michigan State University. Cantor Hyman has served as a Student Cantor in Mobile, AL, Charlottesville, VA, and New York Citys historic Central Synagogue. At Temple Chaverim, the Cantor is the keeper of our Jewish musical traditions and is responsible for transmitting this wealth of knowledge and history to our congregation. Cantor Hyman is also responsible for maintaining our very special Bar and Bat Mitzvah program, where our students are prepared to read and chant liturgy, Torah, and Haftarah portions. Cantor Hyman works personally with each and every student during the final 10-12 weeks of their preparation, insuring the strong relationship between the students and their cantor. Cantor Hyman is a product of the North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY) and has dedicated a large part of his cantorate to youth and youth work. Therefore, it is very common to find our cantor at NFTY and youth group events, as well as national and regional conclaves and biennials. Our cantor is a recognized and published member of the American Conference of Cantors, is a member of the CCAR-ACC Joint Commission on Youth, a member of the URJ Kutz Camp Alumni Board, a chairperson for the NFTY-NAR Youth Committee, and is a frequent editor of music for Transcontinental Music, the publishing arm of the Reform Movement and the largest distributor of Jewish choral music in the world. |
